Mayor Marty Walsh plans to visit Jamaica Plain to celebrate the opening of small businesses in Hyde Square.

The visit is set for 1 p.m. Saturday, according to the JP Neighborhood Development Corp. The event will begin with refreshments at Centre Street Sanctuary. It marks the retail spaces of the former Blessed Sacrament campus being fully rented. In addition to the restaurant Sanctuary, other businesses at 363-365 Centre St. are: Family Caregivers, Massachusetts Bay Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Bilingual Veterans Outreach Center of Massachusetts, Peak Performance Chiropractic and Re/Max Destiny.

"We're thrilled at how much these businesses really fit in, how much they complement 'Boston's Latin Quarter,'" said Richard Thal, executive director of the Community Development Corp., in a press statement. “When we started marketing this space, the U.S. was in the worst economic downturn since the Great Depression. So the process took nearly four years. But our goal was to recruit independent small businesses and we never lost sight of it."

The businesses have all been open for some time, some for more than a year.

While Walsh is in JP, he is also expected to cut the ribbon for Tails, which offers pet supplies and pet services like doggie daycare, at 380 Centre St.

In other recent Blessed Sacrament campus news, Hyde Square Task Force finally closed on buying the old church itself.
