Hello neighbors! Here's your Morning Memo for all things JP for Monday, Aug. 25.

Dedication of Hero Square: On Monday afternoon, the city will hold a dedication ceremony honoring the corner of St. Rose and South as a "Hero Square" in memory of Marine Lance Cpl. Alex Arredondo. The ceremony is at 2 p.m. Monday. Arredondo, as most of you know, was killed in Iraq in 2004. He grew up in JP and his father, Carlos Arredondo, is a well-known community figure. The JP Post Office is also named for Alex Arredondo.

Hear Great Music, Eat Local Seafood and Help the JP Music Festival: This year's edition of the JP Music Festival is right around the corner. But it takes money to make one of the neighborhood's signature events happen. Monday evening offers you a great chance to raise money for the festival while enjoying locally-sourced seafood, a special fernet cocktail and live music at Tres Gatos. The sounds include one of the festival's top acts, Tallahassee. Here's the Facebook event page. 4-11 p.m. Monday at Tres Gatos, 470 Centre St. (Please note Tres Gatos' usual menu won't be served during this special event.)

No JP Neighborhood Council Meeting: Usually, the JP Neighborhood Council meets on the fourth Tuesday of each month. Like many organizations, however, the elected advisory group is skipping its August meeting (which would normally have been Tuesday night.) But mark your calendars for Tuesday, Sept. 23, when the full meeting of the council again takes place.
