Football Party

The NFL preseason is underway! Whether you’re a casual fan or a fantasy football fanatic, you probably have standing plans for every game day from now until the conclusion of Super Bowl XLIX on February 1st, 2015.

One great way to break in the 2014 football season is by hosting a game viewing party at your home. There’s nothing like having all of your friends or fantasy team over to watch your favorite teams. Before you start planning your soiree, however, make sure to review these helpful tips:

Prior to the Party
Before kickoff, you need to do a few simple things to help make sure that your party will be a hit. A few days before the party, start preparations by completing the following tasks:

  • Ensure that there is a seat for each guest. You don’t want to make people sit on the floor or on the arms of your sofa, so think about how many kitchen or lawn chairs that you will need to move into your TV room to accommodate all of your visitors.
  • Ask your guests about food allergies. Make sure that you provide snacks that can be enjoyed by everyone in attendance. Providing a variety of refreshments will guarantee that everyone has something that they can enjoy.
  • As you well know, watching football can sometimes involve jumping out of your chair, so make sure that you “Football-proof” your living room. Store any valuable or breakable items somewhere that party goers will not be, such as in a linen closet or a bedroom.

By performing these tasks a few days before the game, you will be much less likely to run around like a headless chicken right before your event.

Fancy Foods
Football games typically last several hours, so you will need to feed your guests while they are at your home. Sure, you could get away with the cliché shrimp cocktail and a veggie tray, but wouldn’t you rather have food that your guests will rave about?
If you need ideas, check out Food Network’s Big Game Bash recipes, or any of the 135 recipes from this list on How Sweet It Is. Both have simple and delicious recipes for Football favorites like Nachos, Wings, Potato Skins, and 7 Layer Dip.

Alcohol Awareness
If you are going to serve alcohol, there is a very important insurance issue that you need to know. It’s called “Social Host Liability.” In layman’s terms, this means that as the host of a party, you are liable for the actions of any guest to whom you serve alcohol. This is normally not a concern, but it could turn into a lawsuit if one of your guests is involved in a car wreck on their way home. Legally, you would be at least partially responsible for their actions after leaving your party. While having a few drinks at a Football party is fun, you need to make sure that you are covered in case anything happens to your guests on their way home.

To ensure your liability protection, call 877-550-0025 before your gathering to speak to a Vargas and Vargas Insurance representative. They can review your home insurance policy and make sure that you are covered for potential Social Host Liability issues. And remember, if any of your guests appears too drunk to drive, it’s your responsibility to ensure that they get home safely, so drive them home yourself or call them a cab.
