Fermentation novices and aficionados from all over New England will gather at the second annual Boston Fermentation Festival on Saturday, September 27, from 10am-4pm.
The free festival will offer workshops, lectures, booksignings, demonstrations, and tastings of fermented foods, such as kimchi, cheese, pickle and mead tastings; Sandor Katz, New York Times bestselling author of The Art of Fermentation will speak at 3pm. Over a dozen exhibitors will sample and sell their fermented foods and drinks, including tempeh, kombucha, sauerkraut, pickles, and handmade fermentation crocks. In addition, a “kraut mob” will be on hand all day to teach how to make sauerkraut to teach the basics, and Boston chefs will compete in a “pickle-off.”
The festival will take place in conjunction with the Egleston Farmers Market at Our Lady of Lourdes Parish Hall, 45 Brookside Avenue, Jamaica Plain, close to the Brewery and the Stony Brook T stop.

Festival organizer Jeremy Ogusky, of Ogusky Ceramics, is a Jamaica Plain-based potter whose handcrafted crocks are sold all over the world and specifically designed for lactic-acid fermentation.
