The Department of Transportation is inviting residents to meet the team that will tear down the crumbling Casey Overpass and replace it with a network of surface roads.

The first of many "construction update meetings" will be held Wednesday, Jan. 21, 6:30-8 p.m. at English High School, 144 McBride St. The meeting will be in the auditorium.

Key employees of the contractor, Barletta Heavy Division, will be on hand. Attendees will get an overview of phase one of the massive project, including temporary road changes. Barletta won the project with a $60 million bid.

Demolition of the overpass is expected to begin this winter. The two-plus-year project will transform Forest Hills, reworking the roads, moving busways and adding a new station entrance, among other items. A recent timeframe had the project starting in summer 2014 and wrapping by the end of spring 2016. But various delays mean the project will be starting in winter 2015.
