At its meeting Friday the Boston Redevelopment Authority board voted in favor of a 124-unit development Hyde Park Avenue between Ukraine Way and Walk Hill Street.

The development, termed "Parcel U" because it's one of several pieces of MBTA land surrounding Forest Hills, will be built in three phases between 2015 and 2017. It will have a line of row houses along Hyde Park Avenue and a 65-unit, five-story apartment building at Ukraine Way. Urbanica Design is the architect. Urbanica and the Community Builders are the development team.

In one of the fastest turn-around times in memory, the development team submitted its Expanded Project Notification Form only on Aug. 1 with just one BRA hosted public meeting.

Forest Hills is amid a of a wave of large new developments. The Commons at Forest Hills Station, for instance, at the old Hughes Oil site, is well underway toward bringing 280 apartments to the area. More than a 1,000 new housing units are on the drawing board.

And Mayor Marty Walsh recently made it a point to emphasize the need for more "transit-oriented development" with higher density of units and less parking along the Orange Line in JP.
