Statistically, the most serious crimes are down 11 percent in JP for 2014. That's according to Boston Police Sgt. Beth Leary, who passed along that information at Monday night's Jamaica Pond Association meeting.

Leary, who closely tracks crime in the E-13 police district, said it was a "really good year" and that JP's result was "one of the best in the city."

Of course, one of the stories of the year for JP was a rash of muggings at Jamaica Pond and Franklin Park. But those high-profile cases came amid an overall drop in "Part I" crimes.

The FBI includes eight crimes as "Part I" offenses:

  • Criminal homicide
  • Forcible rape [Editor's note: That's the FBI's phrase.]
  • Robbery
  • Aggravated assault
  • Burglary
  • Larceny/theft (not including motor vehicles)
  • Motor vehicle theft
  • Arson

The Boston Police Department is readying more detailed reports, including break-downs by category and how JP fared versus other neighborhoods. Jamaica Plain News will bring you more once they're available.
