Boston Police confirm that one of the people shot Friday in Hyde Square is dead.

Police were called to the area of Centre and Wyman just before 6 p.m. on Friday for reports of two people having been shot, according to spokespersons for the police. Officer Rachel McGuire later confirmed that one of the victims died. The other person has "life-threatening injuries" and was being treated at Boston Medical Center, McGuire said.

For hours after the shooting nearby streets were blocked off as police investigated.

Universal Hub reported that one victim was shot in the head, the other in the torso.

A description of the victims and suspect(s) were not available from police as of late Friday night.

A commenter here on Jamaica Plain News said the incident took place at the city parking lot that's directly across from the old Blessed Sacrament Church.

Less than a month ago, 17-year-old Mason Raymond of Hyde Park was stabbed to death outside the Jackson Square T. A 16-year-old from Dorchester, Ronaldo Cepeda, has been charged with the crime.
