After one-and-a-half years, the renovation of the Jamaica Plain Branch Library is winding down, and the Friends of the JP Branch Library are holding a "Next Chapter" fundraiser event to support ongoing programming for the new teen area, art gallery and maker space during the coming year.

The fundraiser will be held Friday, May 5, from 7 to 10 p.m. at the branch library on South Street. It will feature a performance by members of musical group "A Far Cry" and the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum's chamber orchestra. The evening will also include an array of appetizers and a bar serving beer and wine.

Tickets are limited and cost $100, of which $75 is tax-deductible. Tickets include two beverages, and must be purchased by this Friday, April 28. Individuals who cannot attend the fundraiser but wish to contribute can visit the Friends website at www.friendsjplibrary.org/nextchapter/.

The grand opening date for the renovated library space has not yet been announced but is expected this spring. The work includes the addition of an angular glass entryway facing South Street, a reading lounge, a new terrace under the eaves of the historic part of the building along Sedgwick Street, new furniture, restrooms, fixtures and mechanical systems, and an elevator that provides access to all levels of the library.
