The Boston Police Department E-13 Community Service is hosting its first ever free Catch and Release Kids Fishing Derby at Jamaica Pond this weekend. And don't worry there will be (limited) loaner fishing poles, too.

For those not in the know, there are definitely fish in Jamaica Pond, as it is stocked every year in an event that attracts school children, teachers, politicians, and state and city departments.

There will be fishing instruction, music, police and environmental instructions and trophies. This is a family-friendly event with prizes, raffles, drinks and more.

Jamaica Pond trout stocking, 2015.

This is a rain or shine event because fish don't care if it's raining. Although fish probably aren't big fans of being caught, but this is a catch and release derby -- so all fish are supposed to go back into the pond! The event is from 8 am to noon on Saturday, June 24 at Jamaica Pond.

Call the BPD E-13 Community Service Office at 617-343-5623 for more info or to volunteer.

This event is sponsored by: Boston Parks & Recreation, Boston Park Rangers, Massachusetts Environmental Police, BPDBS, U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service, Appalachian Mountain Club, Bass Pro Shops, The Fishing Academy, BPPA, and BPSOF.
