HATS: A STORY OF FASHION FLUX

February 25, 2016 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

$6

From Lincoln's top hat to Chaplin's bowler, hats are an integral part of our history and culture. How do we wear our hats now versus earlier times? Hats had become a prominent clothing accessory in the 18th and 19th centuries. But, in the mid 20th century, hat wearing declined. While some attributed this to JFK's lack of wearing a hat, this lecture will explore a different, more complex story. Automobiles and other factors altered people's clothing needs. In addition to history, you will learn the intricate steps in hat making and materials, which will give you a new level of appreciation. Come hear a Boston milliner recount this fascinating history of hats with special attention to their institutional and cultural roles, plus discover the right hat for your personality and mood.
