Peace and Unity Rally

August 16, 2014 @ 1:00 pm - 5:00 pm

Free

The Jamaica Plain Neighborhood Development Corporation (JPNDC) along with Resident and Merchant Leaders of the Jamaica Plain Community are organizing the very first Neighborhood Peace Rally in our Community on August 16, 2014.

Just this summer we’ve already had three incidents in which one person died and two other people were hospitalized in critical condition due to these shootings.  Public Safety is a huge concern in our community, and together we want to unite with our neighbors and “obtener seguridad, para tener libertad y el sentir de comunidad” which means “obtain safety, to have freedom, and the sense of community.”

We are taking this opportunity to mobilize multiple community organizations, merchants, churches, and resident leaders to unite rally, share our stories about how Public Safety matters to us and has affected us; as well as creating posters and banners as symbolic gestures of PEACE. We will begin the rally at the Hyde Square Rotary, stop at Mozart Playground and Jackson Square and end the event with a celebration at Bromley Heath in the Anna Mae Cole Center. In which we will provide food and entertainment to participants of the event. Our vision is to unite, celebrate together and create the opportunity for people to interact with one another, with a shared common goal and build a better community for everyone.
