Silver Lining Mentoring: Why Mentoring Matters

September 6, 2016 @ 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm

Free

Silver Lining Mentoring (formerly named AFC Mentoring) empowers youth in foster care to flourish through committed mentoring relationships and the development of essential life skills.  Join us for a community discussion on mentoring and youth in foster care. This conversation will give you an overview of our unique programs for youth in foster care and volunteer opportunities currently available.  We’ll have a presentation and an opportunity for Q & A.

Mentors are required to commit to 12 months of service. For the first 12 weeks, mentors support a young person in a one to one relationship in which mentees develop life skills through structured reflection groups. Upon completing the reflection groups, mentors and mentees meet in a community based mentoring model in which they expand on the life skills learned. Mentors must be at least twenty-one years old. We are specifically looking for male mentors, mentors with out-of-home care experience, and mentors who identify as people of color.

Thank you for your interest in Silver Lining Mentoring, we look forward to meeting you!
