City Spent $36M Over Past Decade to Resolve Claims Against Cops

A Boston Globe public records request uncovered that the city has doled out $32 million in the last decade to settle lawsuits and legal claims against the Boston Police Department.

A civil rights lawyer told the Globe the payouts didn’t seem out of line with those of other major cities.

The City of Boston has spent more than $36 million to resolve 2,000 legal claims and lawsuits against the Boston Police Department over the past decade, with most of the money going for cases alleging wrongful convictions or police misconduct.
