New Coat of Paint

Jon Gummer of Olde Tudor Painting puts a fresh coat on the Centre Street City Feed on Wednesday, May 20, 2015. If the outside of the Centre Street City Feed seemed spiffier Wednesday, here's why: It got a fresh coat of color from Jon Gummer of JP's Olde Tudor Painting. Each weekday we post a “Photo of the Day” from around the neighborhood. If you have a photo that screams (or even whispers) "Jamaica Plain," here are four ways to nominate it:

JP Babysitter!

My name is Zoey and I am a 22 year old senior at Northeastern. I moved to Jamaica Plain in July and would love to find some families who need sitters! I have ten years experience with children of all ages and have previously lifeguarded and taught swim lessons for children ages 3 to 15. In the past I worked at MGH in the newborn unit giving hearing tests to the new babies. I am available nights and weekends as well as mornings during the week.

Under Construction and Under Water

For our Photo of the Day on Thursdays, I highlight an image of old JP. This one comes from the JP Historical Society's photo archives, courtesy of Will and Sharlene Cochrane. Here's the caption from the archives:

Monkey the shop cat hangs in the window at Pups 'n Paradise

‘Monkey’ the Shop Kitty Rules South Street

If you frequent South Street, you've seen Monkey. Monkey is the shop kitty at Pups 'n Paradise. In bad weather he stays inside and you can often see him in the windows of the dog and cat grooming salon. When it's nice, though, Monkey sneaks out and patrols the neighborhood. Maybe "patrols" isn't the right word.
