Jamaica Pond Lantern Parades on Oct. 20 & 21; Lantern Making Workshops All Week

The very popular annual Jamaica Plain Lantern Parades are on Saturday and Sunday. There are also several lantern making workshops this week for kids (and adults). This is the 35th year for the annual tradition presented by Spontaneous Celebrations and the Friends of Jamaica Pond. It truly is one of Jamaica Plain's most beloved events that attracts hundreds of kids, adults and dogs. Before the parade, people gather by the Jamaica Pond Boat House, and hang their lanterns to display for all to enjoy the varied designs.

Fearless: A Panel Discussion with JP Women Business Owners on October 16th

JP Centre/South Main Streets is presenting a panel discussion of prominent women business owners in Jamaica Plain to hear their stories about running a business. Panelist will include Joy Silverstein from Fresh Hair Salon, Genevieve Day from JP Knit & Stitch, Kim Mitchell from Boing! Toy Shop, Karen McCormack from McCormack & Scanlan Real Estate, and Christine Rose from Imani Massage. Each panelist will share biographical information about themselves and their businesses, and then answer audience questions. The panel discussion is part of the city's WeBos Week program and is being hosted by the Women Entrepreneurs Boston. WeBos is a "program that advances women entrepreneurs by providing resources and networking opportunities.
