Hundreds Celebrate Summer at Boston Police 3rd Annual Fishing Derby

Hundreds of children, parents, neighbors and friends all enjoyed a beautiful, sunny day of fun, at historic Jamaica Pond at the 3rd Annual Kids Catch & Release Fishing Derby on June 22. Officers and staff from Boston Police District E-13, and other units, all worked hard to organize and produce a free, family-focused day of fishing, games, food, music, prizes, special demonstrations and more. Very special thanks go out to the Boston Police Detectives Benevolent Society, who have catered the food every year for the many guests. Some of the other partners that helped to organize the derby included: Boston Police Activities League, Boston Parks & Recreation, Boston Park Rangers, Boston Police Patrolmen’s Assoc., Boston Police Superior Officers Assoc., Boston Police SWAT, Boston Police Canine Unit, Retired Boston Police Officers Assoc., Mass. The 2nd Annual Catch & Release Fishing Derby with the Boston Police was recently held at Jamaica Pond. Held on June 30th, more than 300 kids enjoyed hours of fishing, games, prizes, food, cold drinks, music, shows -- and a special guest appearance from Charlie Moore, The Mad Fisherman, from NESN! The Boston Police would like to thank all of the BPD volunteers, staff, and community sponsors who made this beautiful day of family fun a reality.

BPD Catch & Release Fishing Derby for Kids at Jamaica Pond on June 30

Who will catch the biggest fish at the annual Boston Police District E-13 Kids' Fishing Derby on June 30? Well, whomever catches biggest fish, or the smallest, will need to toss it back into Jamaica Pond as it's a catch and release fishing derby. Free fishing lessons will be offered at this free fishing derby for children 14 and younger. Limited fishing equipment will be supplied on a first come, first serve basis. Or bring your own fishing equipment.

Sign Up Now: Kids Fishing Derby at Jamaica Pond on June 24

The Boston Police Department E-13 Community Service is hosting its first ever free Catch and Release Kids Fishing Derby at Jamaica Pond this weekend. And don't worry there will be (limited) loaner fishing poles, too. For those not in the know, there are definitely fish in Jamaica Pond, as it is stocked every year in an event that attracts school children, teachers, politicians, and state and city departments. There will be fishing instruction, music, police and environmental instructions and trophies. This is a family-friendly event with prizes, raffles, drinks and more.
