Photos: Footlight Club’s ‘Honk!’ Tells Ugly Duckling’s Story

The musical, originally performed in the United Kingdom, is based on Hans Christian Andersen's well-known story "The Ugly Duckling." The musical tells the story of an odd-looking baby duck, Ugly, and his quest to find his mother. The cast is lead by Robb Russ as Ugly, Elizabeth Bean as Ida, Colin Gillis as Cat and Greg Quilop as Drake. The production is directed by Eleza Kort, with musical direction by Shawn Gelzleichter and produced by Leslie Sullivan and Gen Ryan Gelzleichter.

New Orleans Comes to Jackson Square

"We are LIVE at Jackson Square!" shouted Thomas Watson as he introduced his New Creations Brass Band late Friday afternoon. The Hyde Square Task Force hosted the hot horns from New Orleans on the steps of the former Blessed Sacrament Church. Opening the one hour gig was the Hyde Square Task Force Afro-Latin Percussion Musicians fronted by Cornell Coley. New Creations lead trumpet Watson kicked off his band with a mellow version of "St James Infirmary" with each member doing a solo. After the "The Saints go Marching In" the New Creations opened up the stage for a jam with the Hyde Square percussion musicians.

HONK! Festival comes to Jamaica Plain: Hyde Square Task Force youth leaders to perform with New Orleans Brass Band

As a part of the HONK! Festival, Hyde Square Task Force will host New Creations, a brass band from New Orleans, on Friday, October 10th at 4:30pm for a free concert on the steps of the Blessed Sacrament Church (361 Centre Street, Jamaica Plain). Direct from New Orleans, the New Creations are one of the Crescent City's new breed of brass street bands with an eclectic mix of funk, jazz, and pop. Youth leaders from Hyde Square Task Force's Musicians in Community program will also perform with the band during the free concert.
