Do you have a band and want to play during Jamaica Plain Porchfest? Or do you have a porch and want to host a band? Registration is now open for Jamaica Plain Porchfest happening this July. But it's not just musicians who are welcome to perform during JP Porchfest -- also spoken word artists, dancers, actors, storytellers, circus artists and more! Last year more than 133 bands and solo musicians performed during JP Porchfest at more than 70 locations.

JP on Saturday welcomed thousands of revelers for performances of dance, theater and nearly 120 bands during the neighborhood's second annual Porchfest.

On Saturday, the streets of Jamaica Plain will be filled with the sights and sounds of music and dance, as thousands of attendees comb the sidewalks for the JP's second annual celebration of art and community, Porchfest. Porchfest co-producer Mindy Fried--who, along with coproducer Marie Ghitman and a handful of additional volunteers, organized the festival--described it as "six hours of art", a free event during which multi-genre performances will emanate from over 72 porches, driveways, community centers and green spaces. Ghitman said JP is one of the 23 cities and neighborhoods to have organized their own Porchfests. The ideas was first conceived in Ithaca, New York in 2007 as a music festival held directly on community members' front doorsteps. Jamaica Plain, said Fried, was "ripe for this kind of event," which has expanded from last year to include not only music, but dance, storytelling, spoken word, theater and more.
Jamaica Plain Porchfest: Songs in the Key of JP is a short documentary that captures the spirit of this vibrant community-building event, in which 65 musiciansperformed on 35 porches to a roving audience of 7,000+ people. It will be screened on February 8th at 3:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church, 633 Centre Street, JP. “We wanted to produce a music film that not only reflected the exuberance of the day, but also gave viewers some insight about why it touched a nerve for so manypeople,” said Co-Producer, Mindy Fried. “We are also committed to helping other communities create their own Porchfests, and have begun working with porchfest organizers in Randolph, Plum Island and San Francisco. We know there’s interest out there, and this film will hopefully inspire others”.

Boston Wet/Boston Dry: The JP Historical Society is sponsoring a talk Wednesday by Stephanie Schorow, author of "Drinking Boston" about the city when booze was illegal. Of course, the talk is hosted by the Sam Adams Brewery, which brewed "near beer" and soda during Prohibition.
Dreary days got you down? Come party at Bella Luna/Milky Way Restaurant to celebrate JP Porchfest with Damn Tall Buildings, a band that made waves at Porchfest 2014! Last summer, over 7,000 people attended JP Porchfest, and it was a huge success. In 2015, we want to do it all over again, with more musicians, more porches, and some exciting additions. But we need your help.
