2008 Boston Marathon

What’s Open, Closed on Patriots’ Day

Monday is Patriots' Day, a state and local holiday in Massachusetts commemorating the battles of Lexington and Concord in the War of Independence. The Boston Marathon is run Monday, of course, and the Red Sox play their traditional home game. For Jamaica Plain residents, the Marathon itself has little impact on the neighborhood, though it's a good day to limit your transportation to walking, biking and the T.

Here's a list of what's open and closed for Patriots' Day:

Boston Public Schools: Closed
City Offices: Closed
Libraries: Closed
Trash and recycling: Delayed one day for most JP residents. However, if yours is picked up twice a week, there is no change. Street Cleaning: No daytime street cleaning except on posted arteries before 7 a.m.
Parking: While JP doesn't have meters, elsewhere in the city meters are free and time limits are not being enforced.
