Pink Samurai, We Hardly Knew Ye; Caffe Aromi’s Death Knell, Too

The saga of a highly anticipated Jamaica Plain restaurant will seemingly come to an end Thursday, when the Pink Samurai Dumpling House is scheduled to have its common victualler license cancelled, per the City of Boston Licensing Board agenda. Looking to seize on the dumpling craze, Pink Samurai was originally expected to open at 658 Centre St. in December 2015. But the opening was delayed for a week, then much longer, the windows eventually papered over. In August 2016, the paper was removed from the windows, and for several days there were handwritten signs stating that the restaurant would be open for business the following day. At the time, Boston Restaurant Talk reported there were two chef changes, as well as tinkering with the menu, before it had even opened.

This is Not a Drill: Dumpling House Finally Opens

The long-awaited Pink Samurai Dumpling House, which originally was scheduled to open in December 2015, is finally open. Twitter user John Hayden confirmed the 658 Centre St. restaurant was open Saturday and should be open again Tuesday after being closed for Labor Day. .@pinksamurai_jp @OnlyInBOS @02130News Pink samurai is so open!!!— John Hayden (@anvilwonk) September 4, 2016

Long-awaited ‘Pink Samurai Dumpling House’ May Open as Soon as Friday

We have it on good authority that the old Charlie Chan's on Centre Street will open as Pink Samurai Dumpling House as early as Friday. The chef who originally was going to launch the dumpling restaurant told Jamaica Plain News that while he is no longer involved in the project, he expects the new team may open as soon as Friday. We expect menu changes from the original concept. We'll pass along more as soon as we can confirm it. We've been unable to reach the owner but we'll update this story if we do.
