Stand where Amory meets School and, randomly, you can see the flags of Colombia, the United States, Spain and the U.K.

Colombia's flag hangs in a second-floor window along School Street. Because of the way it's hanging, you can't see the red band at the bottom.

Two houses down and across Amory flies the tattered banner of Spain.

Kitty-cornered nearby, the U.S. flag flies from a pole at Copper Beech Montessori School.

And there was a Mini Cooper with the British flag painted on the roof parked on School Street when I walked by on Tuesday, rounding out our four national flags.

Okay, before the Scots, Welsh and Northern Irish rush to beat me about the head and shoulders, I know it's a stretch to include the British flag, since it only partially represents England. For historical and cultural reasons, the Brits send teams from their constituent countries to the World Cup instead of one big UK entry.

Spain and England have already been shown the door at this year's World Cup. Colombia is through to the knock-out round where they face Uruguay. The United States can win through to the next round be beating or tying Germany on Thursday.
