The family behind Jamaica Plain's third Indian restaurant is hoping to open at 3706 Washington St. in August.
Samdutt Sharma told Jamaica Plain News that Tikki Masala, a 25-seat restaurant, will serve mostly North Indian and some South Indian dishes.
Sharma's plan got a thumbs-up from the JP Business & Professional Assoc. at the group's July meeting.
Sharma said his family has applied for a beer and wine license and hopes to provide both take-out and delivery.
The restaurant will be in the former driving school space on the Forest Hills block that includes the Dogwood Cafe, Eugene O'Neill's pub and East Ocean Chinese Restaurant.
Once open, Tikki Masala will be the third Indian restaurant in JP. There's also Bukhara Indian Bistro and Ghazal in Centre/South.
Sharma's business and restaurant experience includes owning a sub shop and convenience store in Waltham and being a chef at the Hilton in Cambridge. Tikki Masala's proposed hours would be 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., seven days a week, Sharma said.
One challenge the new restaurant will face is disruption caused by the coming Casey Overpass demolition and transition into a network of at-grade streets. JP's city councilor, Matt O'Malley, is urging residents to "Adopt a Restaurant" in Forest Hills during the chaos and commit to going there at least once a week.
