5 Healthy Treats for Kids

As a parent, you are probably always on the hunt for healthy snacks that your kids will love. If your kids are tired of plain fruit and Ants on a Log, we've found some new ideas for you. The internet is full of inspiration – here are 5 recipes that we have found that kids will love:

Frozen Strawberry Pops

Kids love popsicles, but sometimes they don’t need the extra sugar that comes with most frozen treats. Instead, try whipping up some Strawberry Pops! You only need a few ingredients: strawberries, plain yogurt, honey, sprinkles, and cake pop sticks. Assemble the pops and freeze, and you can give your kids a healthy summer snack any time!

Peanut Butter and Banana Tortilla

It’s a challenge to find new, delicious snacks that can be eaten on the go. Here’s a new one for your repertoire, though! Spread peanut butter on a tortilla and wrap it around a banana. It’s satisfying and healthy, and it’s not something that will make fingers sticky or end up all over your car if your kids need a pick-me-up on the way out the door.

Fresh Fruit Pops

Want your kids to start asking for more fruit? Well, this recipe just might have them doing that. Fill a plastic cup with any fruit that you have around the house – strawberries, kiwi, blueberries, peaches – anything! Then all you need to do is insert a popsicle stick in the cup and cover the fruit with orange juice. Stick the cups in the freezer, and in a few hours you will have a cold and delicious treat!

Homemade Juice Jelly Cubes

Did you know that you can use your kid’s favorite juice to make gelatin snacks? By using two cups of juice and 2 packets of unflavored gelatin, you can make snacks for your kids where you can control the ingredients – including the sugar content. One of the best parts of this recipe is that you can use any flavor of juice, so the possibilities are endless!

Monster Smoothies

Green smoothies are so healthy, but it can be difficult for kids to eat green foods. Here’s a trick for getting some green into your kid’s diet: disguise it as a monster! Use a blender to make a green smoothie, and then dress it up with candy eyes and pineapple pieces. This is a great ‘trick’ for Halloween, but kids will also love it as a cool summer treat after playing outside.

With these five ideas, you can hide all of the processed snacks that your kids are constantly begging for, and give them a healthy snack that they will love. In fact, these snacks are so fun and delicious that you may enjoy them too!
