The National Weather Service has issued a flash flood watch as drenching rains, possibly punctuated by torrential rainfall from "embedded thunderstorms."

The watch covers Boston's Suffolk County and a wide swath of New England.

Federal forecasters say the rain will taper this evening from west to east. The flash flood watch expires at 8 p.m.
