Hyde Square Task Force announced Monday it was the recipient of a $200,000 grant from ArtsPlace America to support their Artes Pa'lante program.

"Hyde Square Task Force will work to partner with businesses and artists in Boston’s Latin Quarter on the Artes Pa’lante project to use the richness of Latin arts and culture to bring together people from different social, economic, racial, and cultural backgrounds, while building the small businesses’ capacity to expand their customer base and adapt to the neighborhood transition," the youth development nonprofit said in a press release.

The six-figure grant will support a wide range of activities: sidewalk sales, street salsa dancing, dominos, Afro-Latin music performances, family drum circles, theatre and development planning for the former Blessed Sacrament Church.

Hyde Square Task Force owns the former sanctuary and has ambitious plans to transform it into an arts and community center.

Roughly translated, Artes Pa'lante means "Forward With the Arts."

This year ArtsPlace America made 38 grants ranging up to $500,000. Other winning projects include supporting an artists' collective in Kivalina, Alaska as that community prepares to relocate because of climate change. Here's a full list of winners.

Hyde Square Task Force plans to celebrate the grant on Thursday at 6 p.m. outside the former Blessed Sacrament Church with a free concert of Afro-Latin music by Gian Carlo Buscaglia.
