A Duo of Frogmore Reviews

The Frogmore, the new Hyde Square restaurant focusing on low-country coastal South Carolina cuisine, has garnered a couple of high-profile reviews in Boston media this month.

Over at the Boston Globe, restaurant critic Devra First finds her server's well-meaning inquiries about the meal "slightly uncomfortable," but praises the Hoppin' John bowl of black-eyed peas and rice infused with ham broth as a "homey pleasure," and deems the she crab soup "rich with cream and aromatic with sherry, the bites of crabmeat plentiful and sweet."

MC Slim JB, the Improper Bostonian's restaurant critic, credits the restaurant for its hospitality and its "fascinating old fusion of African, Caribbean, native and western European influences." Among the flattery: the hush puppies, served fresh from the fryer, "are utterly fantastic," grilled okra presents "a potential conversion moment for the okra-averse" and the dozen craft brews on tap "should satisfy JP's avid beer-nerd contingent."
