There is already talk about three Boston City Councilors vying to become the next city council president -- with one being District 6 City Councilor Matt O'Malley. And O'Malley already has the public support of one sitting city councilor -- Ayanna Pressley.

"O’Malley for president! City Council president that is. Matt’s a great leader and friend. I’ve complete confidence in his ability to fairly, thoughtfully, and effectively lead the council."

In an interview with Jamaica Plain News, Pressley was asked what would she look for in the next city council president, and she put it in clear terms.

"O’Malley for president! City Council president that is. Matt’s a great leader and friend. I’ve complete confidence in his ability to fairly, thoughtfully, and effectively lead the council."

District 9 City Councilor Mark Ciommo and At-Large City Councilor Michelle Wu, are also interested in being city council president.

O'Malley was very close to being chosen as the city council president in 2014, but ultimately District 2 City Councilor Bill Linehan was chosen by his peers.

The Boston City Council president will be voted upon by the council at the first council meeting in January.
