It's been a busy night along Washington Street. Along with a car fire, which we've previously reported, firefighters have knocked down a blaze at the old Flanagan & Seaton building.

Boston Fire Department Deputy Chief Jay Fleming said it appeared that demolition work was occurring in the building and a Bobcat vehicle caught fire. Firefighters were able to extinguish the flames and then waited for the smoke to clear from the building.

Firefighters used thermal imaging machines to determine where the fire was located in the building entering. BFD personnel did not have to cut into the building, but workers at the building cut open a section of the building to ventilate the smoke, said Fleming.

The area around Washington and McBride was closed to through-traffic as police and firefighters dealt with the situation.

Firefighters had at least two ladders on the building of the old warehouse. According to scanner traffic, levels of carbon monoxide were high and fire department leaders instructed personnel to keep using their air supplies.
