La Cadena de Amistad, the Jamaica Plain neighborhood office of FriendshipWorks, was honored with the Community Service Award at Brookside Community Service Health Center’s Annual Meeting on Wednesday, November 18th.

Lillyana Hebbert and her team at La Cadena de Amistad, was recognized by the Brookside Community Policy Board for its dedication and commitment to enhance and improve the quality of life and well-being of elders in the community.

Founded 14 years ago, La Cadena Amistad provides critical services to Spanish-speaking elders who may have limited or no English language capacity. It recruits and matches bilingual volunteers who provide companionship, advocacy, medical escort, and other assistance services to elders in Jamaica Plain. La Cadena Amistad is also piloting MusicWorks, a program providing one-on-one music matches and group activities for elders in the community. MusicWorks is supported through the generosity of Goddard House Assisted Living Foundation.

Brookside Community Health Center, licensed by Brigham and Women's Hospital, provides comprehensive, multi-disciplinary, family-oriented health care services to those who live and work in Jamaica Plain and the city of Boston.

FriendshipWorks (formerly MATCH-UP Interfaith Volunteers) is a network of trained volunteers that provide support and assistance to elders in Boston and Brookline. FriendshipWorks’ mission is to decrease the social isolation, enhance the quality of life, and preserve the dignity of elders.
