Dishing Out Superlatives for Jamaica Plain Restaurants

Print More

Tres Gatos was recently named as a great place to go after waking up next to someone you don't really know (presumably with that stranger). So that got us thinking -- what are some other superlatives for Jamaica Plain restaurants.

To start, no other JP restaurant was provided a superlative in Kara Baskin's Globe piece "The Perfect Restaurant for Every Situation." But that makes sense, because they've got to appeal to a larger market than just our wonderful food-centric neighborhood. Luckily, we've got lots of ideas for JP superlatives.

Trying to Impress Your Parents

This is from actual personal experience. I have taken my parents to Vee Vee (763 Centre St.) on several occasions, and the creative American fare restaurant has never, ever disappointed. They serve up dinner, brunch and plenty of beer options. IF there's a line out the door, Ver Vee is worth the wait. Also, note the menu changes frequently, with the new dishes executed well, which is tough to accomplish (and will surely please the folks).

Where to Take Your Vegan Friend(s)

Maybe you thought your vegan friend wouldn't be able to keep it up. You were wrong, so very wrong. So where do you take them? Fiore's Bakery (55 South St.) is not just a bakery. There are several tasty vegan sandwiches, giving any vegan options, options, options (it's important to have options). There are also numerous vegan desserts. Also, a shoutout is needed for FoMu (617 Centre St.) for its alternative ice cream using a coconut base.

Your Loud, Toddler-Aged Nephew or Niece Gotta Eat Someplace

This is a summer special only on Thursday nights from 3:30 pm until dark  June through Oct. 1. Take your active toddler (whether it's yours or someone else's) to Thursdays on the Lawn at Loring-Greenough (12 South St.). There are rotating musicians, community organizations, a farmer's market -- and food trucks. Usually Bon Me, Clover and a tHurd truck, too. Get some food, eat some food and let the child tucker him or herself out on the lawn with all the other kids in the neighborhood. You'll all go home happy.

Hungover and Hungry

Sorella's. Sorella's. Sorella's. Located in Hyde Square (386 Centre St.), this family-run breakfast and lunch spot has a plethora of dis he's -- pancakes (chocolate chip, blueberry and more), waffles, French toast, omelettes (what do you want in your omelette? Because they've got it), and eggs (scientifically proven to help with hangovers).

This is an incomplete list, of course. If you've got a JP superlative to share, add it to the comments section!
