The 1st Annual SIDS Run for Tighe is Sunday, Oct. 16.

The 1st Annual SIDS Run for Tighe is a 5K walk/run to raise money and awareness for Robert's Program and the SIDS Research Lab at Boston Children's Hospital. SIDS stands for Sudden Infant Death Syndrome, which is the leading cause of death among infants 1 month to 1 year old; about 2,500 infants die each year in the U.S. from SIDS.

The run is named after Tighe O'Brien, who passed Aug. 10, 2015, at 4 months old. His parents, Reiko and Tony O'Brien of Roslindale, started the run/walk.

"Tighe was so loved, he was our world. We are determined to try and turn this devastating experience into something positive in his name," wrote Reiko and Tony on a fundraising page for the run/walk.

The 5K will start at 9:30 a.m. for walkers and 10 a.m. for runners at 873 South St. in Roslindale. The route will crisscross through the Arnold Arboretum, and streets along the route will be temporarily closed to traffic as walkers and runners make their way toward the finish line.

The full route is as follows: South Street to Bussey Street, to the Arnold Arboretum, to Hemlock Road, around Conifer Path, to Hemlock Road, exit the Arnold Arboretum, left onto Bussey Street, entering the Arnold Arboretum, left onto Peters Hill Road, to the Mendum Street Gate, exit the Arnold Arboretum, right onto Mendum Street, left onto Walter Street, left onto South Walter Street to South Fairview Street and then to Fallon Field in Roslindale.
