On Saturday, October 22nd from noon to 2 pm anyone is welcome to look at the archives and special collection of the Loring-Greenough House (12 South St.) and the Jamaica Plain Tuesday Club (JPTC).

Join JPTC board members Emily Gonzalez and Tricia Gilrein as they show off select materials – scrapbooks, photographs, objects, clothing – from the collections. Learn more about the history of the women of the Tuesday Club, which was founded in 1896 by a group of women, purchased the house in 1924 and has been steward ever since then. In 2008, the club articulated a vibrant new community-oriented role for the House as a center for social, cultural, historical, and educational activities. You'll learn how they saved the Loring-Greenough House from destruction, and tidbits of their own personal histories. The Loring-Greenough House was constructed in 1760 by Commodore Loring and owned by the Greenough family from 1783 until 1924 until the Tuesday Club purchased the house.

Emily Gonzalez is the Archivist for the Cambridge Historical Commission and the Programs Committee chair and Vice President of the JPTC. Tricia Gilrein is Collections Manager at the Concord Museum and the Collections Committee chair of the JPTC.

This event is free and open to the public.
