A fundraiser is underway for a longtime bartender at Forest Hills' J.J. Foley's Fireside Tavern to help pay for his medical bills and his family's other living expenses.

Dave Hickey has been in the hospital since late February, according to the fundraising page, in intensive care and on life support battling pneumonia and heart complications. 'Right now, he needs your help. His wife Carol and daughter Jen would so appreciate any help you can give to go towards groceries and bills. No amount is too small."

As of March 15, the fundraising page had raised more than $3,500 from 70 people, toward a stated goal of $100,000.

Donors can also stop by the tavern, located at 30 Hyde Park Ave., where a collection has been set up as well.

Hickey, according to the fundraising page, "has been working for J.J. Foley's since the eighties (before some of you were born!). He has been been the life force of the Fireside Tavern in Forest Hills for over fifteen years: playing chess with you, telling stories, pouring drinks and beers with personality and charm. He knows every single one of you, and probably the date you first walked into the bar!"

For more information and to donate, visit the fundraising page or drop by the tavern.
