A Texas-based burger and shake chain will make its case to the neighborhood next week to open an outpost of its fast-casual concept in Jackson Square.
MOOYAH Bugers, Fries & Shakes seeks to open at 225 Centre St. That's the large building right next to the Jackson Square T where it meets Columbus Avenue. The company, headquartered in Dallas, had originally planned to open its JP restaurant in April or May.
MOOYAH representatives are scheduled to appear at the Tuesday, June 6 meeting of the JP Neighborhood Council's Public Service Committee. The meeting will be in the Urban Edge Board Room, 1542 Columbus Ave., at 7 p.m. that day. Specifically, MOOYAH will ask for the neighborhood advisory group's blessing for the "common victualler" license required by the city.
The JP branch of the chain, which recently opened its 100th location nationwide, would have hours of 11 a.m. to 11 p.m., according to a filing with the JPNC committee.
MOOYAH Burgers, Fries & Shakes had originally planned to open a Jackson Square location in April or May 2017.
Back in January, Jamaica Plain News spoke with Jay Hummer, the development agent for the company.
"We are fresh, never-frozen burgers, grilled or fried chicken salads, sweet potato fries, hand-cut French fries, milkshakes, turkey burgers, lean green options and more," Hummer said.
The company has a Massachusetts location in Northborough, and plans two more in Berlin and Billerica, according to the company's website.
"We're excited for the [JP] location due to the residents and T riders, and the redevelopment that has brought more life to the area," Hummer told Jamaica Plain News in January. "It's a fun brand, just like the name, which was created by some fun-loving Texans while driving down the highway. It's kind of like (former beloved ESPN broadcaster) Stuart Scott's 'Booyah!'"
A private equity firm bought MOOYAH earlier this month.
While the appetite for burgers and shakes in JP is presumably strong, JP-bred Grass Fed recently closed its Forest Hills location.
