On October 17th, join former Jamaica Plain State Rep. John E. McDonough, who was the lead author of the Affordable Care Act, and a panel of invited guests as they discuss how we can help secure crucial healthcare for so many Americans.

Panelists include State Rep. Liz Malia (D-Jamaica Plain) and District 6 Boston City Councilor Matt O'Malley. State Sen. Sonia Chang-Diaz (D-2nd Suffolk District) and State Rep. Jeffrey Sanchez (D-15th Suffolk/Norfolk District) have also been invited to participate.

Between 2008 and 2010, McDonough served as a Senior Advisor on National Health Reform to the U.S. Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions where he worked on the development and passage of the Affordable Care Act.

He is currently a Professor of Public Health Practice in the Department of Health Policy & Management at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health and Director of the Center for Executive and Continuing Professional Education.

The current federal administration's proposed cuts will cause massive losses of coverage to millions of Americans. McDonough will reflect on working to expand quality healthcare coverage.

Two citizens will also be recognized for their contributions to the community: Christine Cooper, Co-Founder and Director of the Jamaica Pond Project; and Tom Kieffer, MPH, Executive Director, Southern Jamaica Plain Health Center.

This event is sponsored by the Jamaica Plain Forum, Olmsted 2022, and Friends of Jamaica Pond.

This event will be at the First Church in Jamaica Plain (6 Eliot St.) from 6:30 to 8:30 pm.
