As expected Mayor Martin Walsh easily defeated District 7 City Councilor Tito Jackson for a second term. But it was the Boston City Council races that were more interesting.
Walsh took 65% of the vote to Jackson's 33%, according to unofficial results as of 10:30 pm on Tuesday.
The only truly contested race in Jamaica Plain was the District 7 race (there's a little bit of District 7 in JP by Egleston Square). After a preliminary that had more than a dozen candidates Kim Janey and Rufus Faulk faced each other. Janey won with approximately 55% of the vote to Faulk's 43%. State Sen. Chang-Díaz, D-2nd Suffolk, had endorsed Janey.
District 1 was a very tight race with Lydia Edwards defeating Stephen Passacantilli, with unofficial results reporting Edwards netting 52% and Passacantilli receiving 47%.
And with Janey and Edwards winning there are now six women on the Boston City Council, including District 4 City Councilor Andrea Campbell and at-large councilors Michelle Wu, Ayanna Pressley and Annissa Essaibi-George. All six women are also people of color.
District 6 City Councilor Matt O'Malley didn't have an opponent and took 97.92% of the vote.
Also returning to the Boston City Council are the four incumbent at-large city councilors with the aforementioned three, as well as Michael Flaherty.
