Help Restore the Heart of the Loring-Greenough House Historic Kitchen

A crowdfunding campaign was recently launched to fund the historic Loring-Greenough House's project centered on the restoration and renovation of its original kitchen. An integral part of the 1760 imposing Colonial home, the current configuration of the kitchen has a combination of intact historic cabinetry and woodwork, and also modern cabinets always envisioned as temporary.

"This is a really exciting project both for the preservation of the house and for the larger Jamaica Plain community. The planned kitchen work involves both restoration and renovation of this historic landmark," said Ed Stanley, Chair of the House Committee. "The kitchen is the vital core of the house, supporting community events, programs, and rentals, which generate income used to help preserve and maintain the property.”

The construction includes materials and labor to build new custom cabinetry, a fresh coat of paint in a historically appropriate color, the re-installation and plumbing for the original soapstone sink, partial restoration of the original pine board flooring, and all necessary permits and fees. All work has been thoughtfully planned and will be sensitive to the historic building fabric of the Loring-Green House.

And there is exciting news about the funding of the kitchen renovation project! Local custom builder and cabinetmaker Kevin Cradock has offered to donate a substantial portion of the work, including the fabrication and installation of the cabinetry, as well as the supervision and coordination of the entire project. We are extremely grateful to Cradock for his generosity to the Loring-Greenough House.

Cradock's firm, Kevin Cradock Builders, are well-known for crafting the finest custom millwork, cabinetry and furniture available. He oversees a large crew of managers, carpenters and woodworkers while working closely with architects, designers and homeowners, building and renovating homes and crafting cabinetry, furniture and millwork. Cradock has completed numerous, outstanding projects in Jamaica Plain and is working on home renovations in the neighborhood now.

Even with this donation, we still need to raise additional funds for the kitchen project. Please help us complete this important work by spreading the word about this ongoing crowdfunding campaign. We are hoping to reach our goal the end of the year, so all contributions will be so appreciated.
