The Gate Restaurant & Bar has abruptly shutdown after being open for less than a year in Egleston Square.

"We regret to announce that The Gate Bar & Restaurant has closed this week. We want to thank our customers and the Egleston Square neighborhood for the loyal support this past year. We are sad to have to permanently shut our doors and apologize for any inconvenience," said owner Paul Byrne via email to Jamaica Plain News.

Byrne opened The Gate, located at 3171 Washington St., in May 2017. He was formerly the co-owner of JP's beloved James's Gate Irish pub, which abruptly closed in 2015.

There weren't any signals of the restaurant closing as it had just posted on Facebook during St. Patrick's Day weekend imploring people to come by for a pint and food.

Byrne is now selling the restaurant, but cannot comment on the sale because that process is ongoing, said a spokesperson to Jamaica Plain News. The mixed-use building was listed for $1,495,000 on Redfin on March 21, as first reported by UniversalHub.com.
