Dr. Mohammad Dar, a Jamaica Plain resident, is running as a Democratic Party candidate in 2020 for the 8th Congressional District.

Dar would face incumbent Rep. Stephen Lynch, if Lynch chooses to run again.

“It is time for change. We need more than incremental change. We need bravery in our politics. We need big ideas worthy of our incredible nation. We need leadership that is unafraid to demand that those in power must prioritize the dignity and prosperity of every single American," said Dar via press release.

In his twitter bio, Dar refers to himself as a doctor, activist, son and Mario Kart enthusiast and stresses there needs to be prosperity for everyone in America.

"Let’s build an America that reaffirms and reignites our best ideals. An America that welcomes you, loves you, and fights for you regardless of your wealth, your orientation, your religion, your skin color, your gender, your party, or where you came from," said Dar via press release. "An America that is bold in its social, economic, and environmental justice. An America that believes in the success of each and every one of us. An America that stands as a beacon to the world and tells the next generation that it is once again dedicated to the Prosperity For All. An America that our next generation will be proud of."

Dar had been working at the VA hospitals in West Roxbury and Brockton, but chose to leave because federal employees cannot run for elected office. He is in the process of establishing a local practice.

Editor's note: The original article stated that Dar was currently working at Brigham & Women's Hospital. He previously worked there. He was most recently working at the West Roxbury and Brockton VAs.
