What Is a Progressive Position on Housing?

What is a progressive position on housing? That is the question that will be tackled at a JP Progressives community conversation on April 29.

"The City of Boston is rapidly becoming more unequal and segregated than at any time in its recent history. Boston is one of the least affordable major housing markets in the world, and Massachusetts is one of the most unequal states in the country. Our community in Jamaica Plain is at the forefront of this crisis," says the description of the event on JP Progressives' Facebook page.

Panelists will include District 1 Boston City Councilor Lydia Edwards; Nathalie Janson, Development Associate and Kuehn Fellow for the Preservation of Affordable Housing; Lisa Owens, Executive Director for City Life/Vida Urbana; and Barry Bluestone, founding director of the Kitty and Michael Dukakis Center for Urban and Regional Policy, and the founding dean of the School of Public Policy & Urban Affairs at Northeastern University.

"In JPP’s first community conversation dedicated to housing we will bring together policymakers, local activists, and housing researchers to address some of the basic problems in housing policy and discuss possible solutions. We hope that this conversation will be one of many that are dedicated to better defining: what is a progressive housing policy?" says the Facebook event page.

This is a free event with registration suggested by visiting eventbrite here. The event starts at 7:15 pm, and is being held at the First Baptist Church (633 Centre St.).
