Bela Lyon Pratt

April 8, 2018 @ 3:00 pm - 5:00 pm

Free

Born in Norwich, CT, in 1867, sculptor Bela Lyon Pratt spent most of his adult life in Jamaica Plain with his wife, sculptor, Helen and their four children.  Their house at 10 Burr Street was the center of their lives and a refuge for his myriad hobbies like the cello, archery and bicycling.  Hear about Bela's early life and training and the couples work together portraying prominent Boston leaders in bronze and ornamenting important buildings with monumental sculpture.

Our speaker, Vivian Zoë, is Director/curator of the Slater Memorial Museum of Norwich Free Academy in Norwich, CT.    The exhibition, Bela Lyon Pratt: Sculptor of Monument, curated by Zoë and produced in 2017 by the Slater Museum included works loaned from all over the country.

This event is co-sponsored by the Jamaica Plain Historical Society, the Brookline Historical Society and the Larz Anderson Auto Museum.   It is free and open to the public and refreshments will be served.
