Boston Lyric Opera (BLO) presents its new production of Franz Lehár’s classic operetta The Merry Widow, starring Erin Wall as Hanna, and Roger Honeywell as Count Danilo, the nobleman long in love with her. Wall and Honeywell both make their BLO debuts here.
Set in romantic Paris at the start of the 20th century, The Merry Widow’s lovable characters, delightful music and light-hearted love story plays out against the impending days of World War I.
This production of The Merry Widow, based on the original libretto by Victor Léon and Leo Stein, was conceived by BLO Artistic Advisor John Conklin and director Lillian Groag, who also wrote a new book for the work. Alexander Joel conducts. The cast also includes Andrew Wilkowske, John Tessier, and local singer Chelsea Basler.
