Working class communities communities of color have been historically excluded from access to capital and financing. There is an inspiring history of community efforts to get control over capital, from the early Freedman’s Savings and Trust of the 1870s through the new Ujima Project, a unique democratically governed financial institution in Boston. Let’s come together to learn this powerful history and its lessons for moving forward.

Cliff Rosenthal is a pioneer in the credit union movement and author of the new book, Democratizing Finance: Origins of the Community Development Financial Institutions Movement. He served as CEO of the National Federation of Community Development Credit Unions (now Inclusive) for more than 30 years and is an internationally recognized leader in bringing financial services to low-income communities and consumers.

Free & Open to All.
