Folksingers Terry Kitchen & Ken Perlman at Jamaica Plain Library Nov. 2nd

Award-winning singer/songwriter/guitarist (and former JP resident) Terry Kitchen and award-winning banjoist/folklorist Ken Perlman will present an evening of traditional and original folk music at the Jamaica Plain Branch Library on Thursday November 2. The program begins at 6:30 PM and admission is free. Both Kitchen and Perlman have worked with legendary folksinger Pete Seeger, and the program will include stories of their experiences. Called "one of New England's best songwriters" by The Boston Globe, Terry Kitchen writes songs that are portraits of ordinary people and emotions, captured with extraordinary compassion, honesty and humor. His new CD The Quiet Places has already been played across the U.S. and Canada, and his 2015 CD The Post-American Century reached #19 on the national Folk-DJ airplay chart. His songs have won the Mid-Atlantic and USA Song Contests and been runner-up in the John Lennon Songwriting Contest. Superb instrumentalist, acclaimed teacher of instrumental skills, gifted performer, and award-winning folklorist, Ken Perlman is both a pioneer of the 5-string banjo style known as "melodic clawhammer" and a master of fingerstyle guitar. He is considered one of the top clawhammer banjoists in the world, and is known for his skillful adaptations of Celtic tunes to the instrument.
