“From Haiti to Jamaica Plain: Migrating Arts”

Bilingual Poetry presentation, featuring renowned guitarist Jimmy Jean-Félix

Join the Loring Greenough House for Migrating Poetry: From Haiti to Jamaica Plain" on November 16th, 7 - 9 pm, at the Loring Greenough House in Jamaica Plain. Presented by Charlot Lucien, a Haitian visual artist, illustrator, and storyteller based in the Boston area, this program will highlight his volume of poetry, La tentation de L’autre rive (The Temptation of the Other Shore). Part of the program will be bilingual, with Lucien reciting his works in French and Creole.

After the presentation, Lucien will be available to sign copies of his poetry volume as well as the art anthology Migrating Colors: Haitian Art in New England. Proceeds from the sale of books at this event will benefit youth arts projects in Jacmel, Haiti, via Brockton Arts.

Lucien is founder of the Haitian Artists Assembly of Massachusetts. His works explores social, cultural and humanitarian topics, with a particular emphasis on his Haitian cultural heritage symbolized by the ancestral drum. He has exhibited primarily in New England and his paintings and other artwork have been featured in various magazines, the Massachusetts transit system and book and newspaper covers in the United States, France, and England. His work is also featured in the art book Migrating Colors: Haitian Art in New England, published in 2018.

Performing at this event will be songwriter/guitarist Jimmy Jean Félix, who has played in several leading Haitian bands. Early in his career he cofounded Splash and Kreyol, two bands that focused on Kreyol jazz/fusion, rock, and various rhythms of Haitian music. His work has been featured on the albums of some of the most renowned Haitian artists including Beethova Obas, Emeline Michel, and Reginald Policard. Recently, Félix has focused on producing and arranging music of many genres.

Admission is $10 for Loring Greenough House members and $15 for non-members. A reception with light refreshments will follow the presentation.
