January Vigil in Support of Black Lives Matter

January 6, 2022 @ 5:30 pm - 6:30 pm

The January Vigil in Support of Black Lives Matter will be held Thursday evening, January 6, from 5:30 - 6:30 pm on the lawn of the First Baptist Church in Jamaica Plain, 633 Centre Street, JP.  In recognition of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s birthday later this month, the Vigil will be a tribute to Dr. King and other civil rights leaders. In lieu of a speaker, supporters are invited to bring and read a favorite quotation from Dr. King or other civil rights leaders. We especially encourage attention to black women, whose contributions to equality and justice have too often been overlooked. After the tribute to civil rights leaders, there will be a “call and response” reading of names of victims of racist violence, followed by a 20-minute stand-out along Centre Street.

The JP Vigil has been held monthly for the past six years because we recognize that systemic racism and injustice are woven into the fabric of our society with tragic results for people of color. We stand in witness for racial justice and human rights and against racist violence and white supremacy. Everyone is warmly encouraged to join us.
