JP Movie Night: “Cutting Edge” Animation
January 4, 2020 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm$8
From survival of the Holocaust, to representations of childhood fears overcome, the animated shorts from Goose & Hummingbird Studios are as much visual poems as they are films. Made up of JP-based husband & wife team Maya Erdelyi (who applies cut paper to the medium of stop-animation) and Dan Rowe (whose internationally recognized work is in both traditional and digital forms) these award-winning animators work expands animation into areas that are at once surreal, at times unsettling, but always beautiful.
Conversely, the animation of Steve Gentile (Chair of the Animation Department at MassArt), using a hand-drawn style, is at once dramatic and visually compelling, humorous and satirical. His work has been seen in festivals everywhere from Hong Kong, to London and New York, and he has demonstrated a particular gift for combining narrative storytelling, true-to-life situations, and his own twist on history.
These three animators will be featured by JP Movie Night at the Centre for Faith, Art and Justice (First Baptist, 633 Centre Street) on January 4th, 7pm. Tickets are $8 in advance.
Additionally, all ticket holders will get 10% off their bill when then dine at Casa Verde or Little Dipper restaurants on Centre Street between 5-6:30pm on the night of the show!
