DACA Fundraiser Press Conference
September 25, 2017 @ 11:00 am - 12:00 pmFree
Jamaica Plain Neighborhood Development Corp. and the JP/Roxbury Immigrant Support Group are holding a press conference on Monday, September 25th at 11 AM in front of the First Baptist Church, 633 Centre St, Jamaica Plain, MA 02130.
They will be announcing the launch of a DACA Fundraiser to help cover the renewal fees for DACA Recipients, which are $495 per person, not including legal fees.
JPNDC hopes to see you there on Monday to demonstrate your support of the community and lend a platform to those that need it most.
A coalition of several Jamaica Plain and Roxbury organizations have organized a last-minute campaign to raise funds to help those who are currently part of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program renew their status while eligible. The renewal period ends October 5.
The JP/Roxbury Immigrant Solidarity Network consists of health, housing, community development, youth, senior, immigrant and religious organizations which formed in June 2017 to fight the anti-immigrant policies and assaults of the Trump Administration. Groups include Southern Jamaica Plain Community Health Center, First Baptist Church of Jamaica Plain, Tree of Life, City Life/Vida Urbana, African Community and Economic Development of New England (ACEDONE), JP Neighborhood Development Corporation, Hyde Square Task Force and Student Immigrant Movement.
The network develops local strategies to ensure that immigrants impacted by the policies of the Trump administration are able to live safely and securely, and access community resources as needed. Groups want to develop strategies to bring targeted immigrants into local community building efforts and in leadership to resist xenophobia in all its forms.
Everyone is encouraged in our community to show solidarity and contribute to the fund: clvu.org/daca_fund. 100% of the contributions will go to help Dreamers pay the $495 DACA renewal fee. We have a tight window to help. The DACA renewal deadline is October 5, 2017, so please give what you can today.
The Jamaica Plain News calendar is open to all local organizations and businesses.
We examine all submissions after they go live. Please be sure to include your email address so we can reach you in case there's a problem!
