Join us tonight as we host local artist Eli Portman for JP’s First Thursday! We hope to see you at 6pm at Coldwell Banker JP located at 713 Centre St. Refreshments and appetizers will be served!

Eli Portman was born and raised in the Greater Boston area. He graduated from the State University of New York at Binghamton with a Bachelors Degree in studio art in the spring of 2014.

Primarily focusing on drawing, Portman also experimented with oil painting and woodblock printmaking. He has since returned to the Boston area, where he currently lives. He has taught art to children grades K-8, and has hung his work in galleries, shops and cafes throughout the Greater Boston Area. Portman is also a member of the Copley Society of Art. He has done murals, private commissions, and illustrated a children's picture book in late 2014. He currently sells his work daily from his storefront in the 'Out of the Blue Gallery' collective at 541 Mass Ave, Cambridge.

Artist's Statement:
In an era where so many new things are being created and built, people forget the things that are no longer shiny and chrome. The structures that are held up by nothing more than some loose strands and faith. The objects covered in grime and the dust of disuse. Shattered windows, rusted girders, cracked bricks. The very things that we ignore, the things that we cast aside, I find the most beautiful. In my drawings, I show these things in the way that I see them. With wonder and amazement. When you look at my drawings, I suggest that you think about the things in this world that were once exciting, new and expensive, and which time has reduced to almost nothing. Those are the monuments of our society that to me, mean everything.
